We had the pleasure of renovating and designing a kitchen for one of our favorite jewelry designers in New Orleans, Crystalyn Aucoin @crystalynaucoinjewlery. Originally each room was enclosed by walls and the flow of the house was constricted. Crystalyn wanted an open space to entertain and watch over her son while in the kitchen. We knew we needed to open it up and also carefully design the renovation to optimize light in a kitchen space with only one window. A kitchen renovation that involves structural work can be frightening at first but is incredibly rewarding in the end.

As you can see from the before pictures, the galley style kitchen was utilizing a dark palette from the dark wood cabinetry, to the floor and countertops.

This only made the space feel smaller.

Introducing a lighter color palette and opening up the walls made the kitchen so crisp, bright and airy, it’s like you’re cooking in a cloud.
