When I was going to Paris at a young age, I was always fascinated by the Metro entrances designed by Hector Guimard. Scattered throughout the streets of Paris, the elegant Art Nouveau is opening up a world of creativity! This was my first contact with this amazing architect and designer!
Later on I had the opportunity to visit an exhibition that blew me away! How can you transfer organic elements, nature into architecture and product design? Fascinating that we are talking of the late 19th century at the beginning of the 20th century.
Meanwhile in the mid century, Frank Lloyd Wright first coined the term “Organic Architecture,” which was his overarching philosophy of not only how a building relates to the world around it, but incorporating the world around the landscape into the design itself. The relationship between the manmade and nature also applies in the same way to art of organic design in products.
Each generation has it’s organic design. Whether it is handmade or assisted by technology! CNC, 3D printing, 4D printing (which I still struggle to get it all) are definitely opening up new doors!
